A good boost is the USB key. Adding a 1GB USB drive for Ready Boost will decrease boot time. Also try spreading your paging file to another disk. Open System Properties and click Advanced system settings. Click Settings under Performance, switch to the Advanced tab and click the Change button.

You already applied the most effective measures. In my experience, startup apps have more impact than services. Defragging helps little, contrary to common belief. Other things I usually do to speed up slow starters: - Clean the registry (eg using CClean) - Use a program such as Startup Control Panel for disabling startup apps. It lists more apps than msconfig. - Antiviruses take a lot of startup time. Use one with a small footprint. I use Antivir or AVG and avoid Norton. - Some program installations add services/startups behind your back, such as auto updaters. Check for new services/apps after installation of new software, especially printer/scanner/TV card software and bloatware.

Forgot another one: use separate partitions for programs and data. Put Windows & Program Files in one partition, user data in another. Keep the program partition as small as possible, e.g. 25GB. This greatly reduces disk head travel distances during startup.

Lower the amount of programs that your computer opens up when it boots. Usually programs like yahoo messenger and windows live messenger open automatically and can cause windows to load slower.
